Glossary
The terms used across Ostrakon, from the Athenian words to the on-chain ones.
Balance root
The Merkle root of every holder's balance at the snapshot block, supplied by the proposer. Votes and claims are proven against it. Anyone can rebuild it from public Transfer events and check it.
Bond
The $OSTRA a proposer puts at stake to open a Shard. It goes to a successful challenger, burns if the vote misses quorum, and returns to the proposer if quorum is reached.
Ekklesia
The assembly of Athens, where citizens voted. In Ostrakon, the contract that runs the 48-hour vote on a Shard.
Exile
The outcome of a passed vote: the named addresses are left out of the new token. Also the contract that forges the new token and handles claims.
Named address
An address listed in a Shard as a candidate for exile. It must hold at least 1 % of supply at proposal time and cannot vote.
Old pool
The existing HYPE pool of the old token. Walls sells handed-in old tokens into it. The exiled can still trade there.
Ostracism
The Athenian practice of voting a citizen out of the city for ten years. The exiled kept their property and rights. They lost only their place in the city.
Ostrakon
A shard of pottery on which an Athenian citizen wrote the name of the man they wished to exile. The plural is ostraka. It gives the protocol its name.
Quorum
The minimum turnout for a vote to count. In Ostrakon, 20 % of non-exiled supply, with yes and no votes both counting toward it.
Shard
The proposal that starts an exile. It names the addresses, posts the bond, fixes the snapshot, and commits the balance root.
Snapshot
The block in which a Shard is included. Balances at that block set voting weight and claim rights. Anything moved afterward does not count.
Stele
A stone slab on which Athens carved its public decrees. In Ostrakon, the on-chain registry of every exile, readable by any contract in one call.
Tithe
The 1 % of the old supply minted to the Treasury in every forged token. It is sold and used to buy back and burn $OSTRA.
TWAP
Time-weighted average price. Walls sells old tokens in slices proportional to elapsed time over 72 hours, so the sale averages across many prices instead of landing in one block.
Walls
The contract that transplants liquidity. It sells the old tokens handed in by claims, raises a new pool with the proceeds and 5 % of the new supply, and burns the LP tokens.
